1. GLASS ROOF / SLOPE GLAZING
-
Construction in steel (Powdercoated or Wet Spray)
-
Timber (Varnished or painted)
-
Aluminum (Powdercoated)
-
Glass mainly laminated with polished edges
-
Toughened glass can be used but must be supported on all four sides by a frame
-
Glass choice is important to reduce heat, glare and UV
-
Ventilation (i.e. large areas with no vertical ventilation) is important to
reduce excess heat. Operated manually or by electronic remote control, smoke
detectors, and rain sensors are available
-
Condensation outlets at base of frame. Moisture can pass through the frame
(especially important in Spa's, Bathroom's, Atrium's and Enclosed Pool areas
-
Glass overhang with aluminum edging is necessary if the vertical glass or wall
joins the glass roof, thus reducing stainmarks
-
Structural glazing tape (Thermobond 6 x 9mm) and structual Silicon are used
-
Acrylic silicon applied between frame and wall (closes hairline gaps) to
complete internal finishing
-
Screws and fixing bolts (covered with plastic cap heads)

2. SUNSPACE / CONSERVATORY
-
See Glass Roof / Slope Glazing
-
Double glazing if required (Reducing sound and heat loss)
-
Additional Blinds (Reducing direct sunlight)

3. BAY WINDOWS
-
See Glass Roof/Slope Glazing
-
If butt jointing vertical glass to slope is done without overhang, the staining
of upright sections will occur. You will also not be able to have condensation
outlets.
-
If going for ventilating vertical windows, overhang is imperative.

4. GLASS WALKWAY
- See Glass Roof / Slope Glazing

5. SKYLIGHT PATIO SYSTEMS
- See Glass Roof / Slope Glazing
- Large glass area on patio's are not always practical as one is only protected against the rain and not the direct sunlight. (Unless blinds are fitted)
- If going for a Solid Roof, Skylights should be fitted in the vicinity of a window or sliding door to allow light to pass into the adjoining room/rooms.
- The Skylight should be ± 800 in width and ± the same as the door or window in lenght. This will allow the same amount of light in, as before the patio was added.
- If patio has a balcony on top, see Glass Floors.
